The status quo
This is a fascinating underground bunker story about people who have survived underground for so long that they’ve developed a civilization with traditions, myths, beliefs, rituals, and ceremonies rooted in forgotten events and the social structure of the country. And when the status quo that maintains order is challenged, enforcement and punishment ensue.
Great acting from Oyelowo, familiar faces from Rashida Jones and Will Patton
A power structure is created that creates a stratified population, figuratively and literally, in power from the top down. That’s the premise, and while it’s not entirely original (like Snowpiercer, Dark City, etc.), there’s enough innovation here that it feels like a good fit for the series.
There are elaborate sets and good CGI that creates a believable atmosphere
(However, as you can see from the show’s poster, the guest stars give way to a regular cast of actors starring Rebecca Ferguson.) The show looks pretty decent, with good production values. Even if Suspicious Minds picks up on some obvious conspiracies early on, the secrets that are revealed keep me hooked.
