James McAvoy and Mackenzie Davis share the elements of their characters that they found most intriguing and complement each other as they discuss their different approaches to craft
Narrative
A family is invited to spend the entire weekend at a lonely house in the countryside, but as the weekend progresses, they realize that there is a dark side to the family that invited them. The story is inspired by the experiences of Christian Tafdrup, director of the original Danish film Speak No Evil (2022), who befriended a Dutch couple while on vacation in Tuscany with his wife. Although the Dutch were a bit socially awkward, the two couples got along very well, and upon returning home, Tafdrup received an invitation from the Dutch family to come to the Netherlands.

He thought about it for a while, but decided that it would feel weird being around people he didn’t really know; (while maintaining that the original Dutch couple never gave off bad vibes). In this remake the nationalities of the two families have been changed to American and British. In the bathroom when he washes his eye he has a subconjunctival hemorrhage in his left eye, in the next scene his eyes are completely clear..

A holiday abroad with his wife and daughter leads to a friendship (with another family of three) when we go for a sunny stroll and when we get home we get a card, come and see how well we are developing, spend a night or three at home, our bricks and mortar. You accept the invitation and set off, unaware of how the pair like to pass, or how they behave, or what trinkets they desire, if you do, it can only invite a great deal of mockery.

It’s safe to say that your reunion is unlike any other, it doesn’t end the same way as the Danish brother (or sister), which is a shame, because it was better, free and unfettered, leaving the viewer with more than just downpipes and a gutter. James McAvoy is brilliant, unfortunately the ending is not – watch the Danish version. The final season of “What We Do in the Shadows”; it’s one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres of the month.
