Forests surround the cities
Narrative
Austria in the 18th century. Killing a baby results in a woman being sentenced to death. Agnes prepares for married life with her lover.
It started out seemingly innocent enough
But her mind and heart become heavy. A dark path into solitude, bad thoughts arise… Agnes probably suffers from psychotic depression, since “people with psychotic depression experience symptoms of a major depressive episode, accompanied by one or more psychotic symptoms, including delusions and/or hallucinations.” Depression composed by Anja Plaschg. I went into this movie with low expectations.
I didn’t know where the movie was going
Without giving anything away, I will say that the movie surprises in a short time. There are scenes that last too long, but overall the movie is pretty good. The depiction of life in Germany in the 1750s was dark, but there were moments of happiness.
The treatment of barbers at the time only made it worse
The main character’s descent into mental illness was sad to say the least. I couldn’t believe that things like this were happening and was horrified to discover how often it happened. My only complaint is that there was no explanation as to why people were punished in a certain way.
