Narrative
Two girls go missing. Paul Chartier, a police recruit, joins a secret unit tracking a sex offender. After the operation fails, Chartier pursues the perpetrators independently, disillusioned by the legal constraints. I know it should be called “if you can”… and I think that would have worked too… but I decided to go that way…
again no pun intended
The film is based on a true story – and I have no idea what happened in the 90s… and from what I understand, it requires a lot of creative license… with who did what to whom… who survived and who didn’t… and I assume the main character (police/gendarmerie) is an amalgamation of several characters into one – I could obviously be wrong, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I was. That said, the movie may be long (2 and a half hours), but you never really feel it.
I’d say no
Well, maybe during the wedding at the beginning… I’ve been there, done that and I know it. Greeks party the same way – like Italians… is it necessary for the story? but maybe I’m missing something. The thrilling part is really well done…
you feel for the main character
a lot of things go wrong… he has the right eye, he has the right “nose”… but will he be able to convince the others of this? A lot of departments are almost working against each other… it’s well told and well acted… yet for me it lacks an x-factor to make it go over the top…
more tension throughout
as much praise as it’s received… and as good as it is… the final push is missing… a little more charisma maybe… and so on.
