Narrative
Art the Clown unleashes chaos among the unsuspecting residents of Miles County as they peacefully fall asleep on Christmas Eve. Director Damien Leone said that due to the surprise success of Terrifier 2 (2022), several major studios expressed interest in financing the film, even without a full script, but he turned down all offers because he was sure they would never let him shoot the exact opening scene, which is described as “very controversial.” Leone noted that the only reason he can be so uncompromising in depicting horror and gore is because he finances his films independently, creates all the special effects himself to keep costs down, and doesn’t have a major studio nipping at his heels as the film grew in popularity. Mia mentions that it will soon be the 5th anniversary of the original massacre, but it took place on Halloween and the film is set on Christmas Day 5 years later, so the anniversary is only 2 months ago. Julia’s Brother: Julia, I thought I told you to stay away from my– [Art kills him with an axe].
It is followed by Terrifier (2016)
A work of art Writers: Drew Fulk, Joe Occhiuti, Paul Wiley, Spencer Charnas, and Steve Sopchak Artists: Ice Nine Kills and Shavo Odadjian If you’re looking for gore, look no further! Terrifier 3 had as much gore as we wanted! To be honest, though, none of the kills top the salt scene in Terrifier 2. Overall, I’d say there are more kills and gore than in the second film, but none of the kills (not even the main kill) were as over the top as in the second film.
It also didn’t do much to further develop Art or Sienna’s backstory
Another thing is that half of the kills are left to the imagination, as half of them either happen offscreen or have already happened by the time the camera pans to the scene. This was a major disappointment as many of the “major kills” should have been shown as they were meant to be emotional. As for the plot, I think I liked the second film better as the pacing of this film was a bit off. Between the time jumps, the Sienna plot and the Art plot, the pacing just wasn’t right.
Finally, the last 20 minutes really disappointed me
There just seemed to be a lot of downtime between each kill. On top of that, you never develop a real emotional connection to the characters other than Siena in this film. Almost none of the kills were shown on screen and believe me, those kills should have been shown. Overall, I would say Terrifier 2 was better.
